Gregory Serdahl

President, Mpower Bodywork & Wellspace, Holistic Health Care

Gregory Serdahl has spent his professional life working at the intersection of creative expression, organizational leadership, and therapeutic wellness. His career developed over many years through steady involvement in arts administration, hands-on bodywork, and business operations. Rather than focusing on a single discipline, he built experience across multiple fields, allowing him to adapt to different professional settings while maintaining a consistent focus on wellbeing and service.

Across several decades, Gregory has held leadership roles in nonprofit arts organizations and founded a national wellness company. Through this work, he has collaborated with professional athletes, healthcare institutions, private clubs, and public figures. Each role contributed to a broader understanding of how structure, care, and discipline can be applied to support people in meaningful ways.

Foundations in the Arts

Gregory’s formal education took place at the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater between 1983 and 1986. His studies emphasized performance theory, collaboration, and disciplined rehearsal. These elements helped him develop strong communication skills and an appreciation for preparation and focus.

During his academic years, Gregory was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. His education reinforced critical thinking and clarity of expression. Theater training also introduced him to the importance of physical awareness, teaching him how posture, movement, and presence influence interaction. These ideas later became relevant to his work in therapeutic body practices.

Gregory also spent a year studying abroad at Bergen University in Oslo, Norway, from 1983 to 1984. Living and learning in a different cultural environment broadened his perspective and strengthened his adaptability. This experience encouraged openness to new approaches and reinforced the value of learning through direct experience.

Early Leadership and Community Engagement

After completing his education, Gregory began working in the nonprofit arts sector. He became artistic director of the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts, an organization serving a primarily Hispanic migrant farmworker community. The center focused on providing access to cultural programming and educational opportunities for residents of the farm complex.

From January 1986 to January 1989, Gregory managed the organization’s daily operations. His responsibilities included budgeting, fundraising, donor relations, and community outreach. He worked closely with community members to ensure programs remained accessible while meeting organizational and financial requirements.

This period helped Gregory develop leadership skills rooted in service and accountability. Managing a mission-driven organization with limited resources taught him the importance of listening, adaptability, and consistent effort. These lessons later informed how he approached leadership in wellness-focused environments.

Building a Lasting Wellness Enterprise

Following early participation in massage programs at Michael O'Shea's Sport Training Institute, Gregory founded Serdahl Associates in 1991. The organization later became Massage America, Ltd. His goal was to build a wellness company capable of delivering dependable massage services across institutional settings.

Under Gregory’s leadership, the company managed massage programs for Crunch Fitness, several New York Sports Club locations, and the New York Football Giants during the Dan Reeves era. Massage America also partnered with healthcare and private clubs, including Mount Sinai and NYU hospitals, the Printing House Athletic Club, and the Manhattan Athletic Club.

Gregory oversaw operations, staffing, and quality control across these varied environments. The work required coordination, attention to standards, and an understanding of organizational expectations. Through this experience, he gained insight into how wellness services can be effectively integrated into athletic, medical, and corporate systems.

Clinical Practice and Notable Experiences

Alongside his administrative responsibilities, Gregory remained active in clinical practice. He worked directly with clients from the entertainment, sports, politics, and arts industries. On one notable day, his client schedule included former New York City mayor Ed Koch, NFL player Lawrence Taylor, Edgar Bronfman, Katharine Hepburn, and Arthur Ashe.

Gregory approached this work with professionalism and discretion. He viewed client trust as central to therapeutic practice and prioritized consistency and technical skill. These experiences helped establish his standing within professional wellness circles.

Rather than focusing on the visibility of these clients, Gregory values this period for the lessons it offered in responsibility and reliability. It reinforced his belief that effective care depends on trust and attention rather than status.

Integrated Therapeutic Bodywork, Holistic Wellness, and Movement-Based Athletic Support

Gregory Serdahl’s therapeutic work includes a broad range of massage and bodywork techniques. His experience covers deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release. His approach emphasizes pain management, back pain relief, and improved functional mobility.

His training in craniosacral therapy expanded his ability to address nervous system balance and stress-related conditions. Gregory also incorporates holistic wellness principles that focus on long-term outcomes rather than temporary relief.

In addition, his background includes yoga, Pilates, and other modalities that support strength, flexibility, and injury prevention. He is trained in Yogic Neuromuscular Therapy, a myofascial technique learned from the late Dyal Singh Khalsa and loosely connected to the energetic framework of Kundalini Yoga.

Gregory is also certified as a Gyrotonics trainer and as a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. His work with professional sports organizations contributed to his understanding of performance demands, recovery planning, and rehabilitation goals.

Professional Focus and Continuing Contribution

Today, Gregory Serdahl continues to work as both a practitioner and a business owner. Over the course of his career, he has employed more than 500 massage therapists, demonstrating how wellness services can operate effectively within structured environments while maintaining professional standards.

His career reflects steady development rather than rapid change. Drawing on experience in the arts, nonprofit leadership, and therapeutic practice, Gregory continues to apply a thoughtful, service-oriented approach to his work. Outside of massage therapy, he is a student and adherent of the late Canadian poet and philosopher Kenneth George Mills. He serves as President of the Kenneth G. Mills Foundation, continuing a commitment to study, responsibility, and long-term contribution.
